WHAT CAN WAGYU BULLS OFFER COMMERCIAL CATTLE PRODUCERS?
Looking for a new bull for your herd? Here's what Wagyu can bring to your herd and your pocket book.
Return On Investment
Wagyu sired calves can be marketed directly off your farm to cattle buyers at a premium. There are several buyers throughout Canada looking for more Wagyu sired calves. Please feel free to contact Herron Farms for buyers contact information. Wagyu bulls are also very fertile and vigorous breeders, you can expect a Wagyu bull to cover more cows for more years than other breeds. Wagyu bulls also reach sexual maturity earlier and are ready to start breeding as yearlings.
Breeding Heifers?
Imagine calving out heifers without any assists or veterinary bills? Wagyu bulls can do that for you. Wagyu bulls sire long slender calves with moderate birth weights and are ideal for first calf heifers (60lbs give or take depending on the breed of the mother). Heifers that calve easier will come back into season sooner and stay in your herd longer earning you more money. These Wagyu sired calves are also vigorous and start nursing quickly after birth without assistance. We've seen excellent growth rate on these calves and they reach 450-550lb weaning weights.
Retained Ownership/Direct Marketing
Wagyu sired calves can improve the finishing and grade on any breed of mother cattle. The higher the quality of beef the better your return at the processor (most Wagyu cross cattle grade AAA or prime with good feeding practices). For farms that sell direct to consumers Wagyu sired calves will keep your customers returning for healthy, tender and flavorful meat.
Hybrid Vigor
Wagyu cattle are genetically distinct from other breeds of cattle. This means that their offspring are true hybrids and have all of the benefits of hybrid vigor. These benefits include longevity in the herd and early sexual maturity. Wagyu cross cows are excellent mothers and are often used in embryo recipient programs because of their excellent fertility. Paying attention to hybrid vigor can add dollars to you bottom line for years to come. Consider adding a Wagyu bull to rotational breeding program and see the improvement in the health and fertility of your herd.
